"6.5 -7 hours in Discharge Lounge"

About: Lister Hospital / Neurology

I am absolutely disgusted and upset that my father who is 88 years was left In the discharge lounge for 6.5-7hours, when his 12 pm Transport was booked the day before.

My Father has been so poorly and not expected to come home, he fought his way through his illness, with the help of the excellent Doctors and Nurses to be coming home to us. He was supposed to be fast tracked as he had been approved for continuing care at home as his illness will not improve.

Because of this delay he had been alone waiting, my mother had been with him all day for the 3 weeks of his hospital stay and the one day she waited at home for him, he is left sitting alone.

He wasn’t home in time for his first care visit, the Carer said that he could go back at 6pm, my mother was worried in case he still wasn’t home so it was agreed the final visit of the day will be at 8pm, it is now 6.30 and my Father still isn’t home.

I don’t even want to think what will happen if he isn’t home in time for his care visit.

Absolutely disgusting way to treat a vulnerable, ill 88 year old who has been in your care.

7pm update: My Father has just got home tired, worn out and crying as the staff hadn’t informed the ambulance staff he was unable to walk from the ambulance. He couldn’t get his breath and was really distressed.

Disgusting!

Thank you for your review - we're very sorry to hear about the experience you've had with the Patient Transport Service (PTS). The service is commissioned by our local clinical commissioning group, the East and North Hertfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group, so we will share your review with them. We're sorry to hear that staff in the discharge lounge didn't make the ambulance crew aware that your father was unable to walk from the ambulance and we would like to share this information with the discharge lounge's senior team. Before we can do that, we'll need a bit more information from yourself - so you are welcome to email us at generalenquiries.enh-tr@nhs.net.
