This not a complaint about staff who have been brilliant I suffer from rare blood cancer called Myeloproliferative Leukaemia Protein Positive Essential Thrombocythemia and I have been advised that any changes in skin should be reported immediately as I am susceptible to serious skin disorders. I am also on antineoplastic, cytoreductive chemotherapy Hydroxycarbamide - 1 g) This drug has been shown to be mutagenic, clastogenic, and cause cellular transformation to a tumorigenic phenotype. So when several skin tags suddenly turned black, started feeling very itchy & painful. I sought medical help. I wasn't so concerned about it being anything serious, more concerned that
I am not able to sleep as I constantly wake up and the tags feel so itchy and also like a needle stab. The dermatologist told me they are not malignant, which I am grateful to be told, but despite causing me such awful problems, I have ben told that the NHS can't remove them as it is classified as cosmetic.
I don't care one bit what they look like - just would like them removed so I can get some sleep. I have been told they can suggest a private clinic but they charge £3,000. I am an OAP and this is about 5 months pension, I can't possibly afford this. I don't have any savings as having cancer is an expensive business, including the hundreds of pound I have spent on hospital car parking fees. (The free parking for cancer victims is a bit of a joke as no one can qualify for it - I suppose its there as it makes the NHS look caring the reality is less than 1% of cancer patients can claim it) - I have never claimed any befits in all my working life - Never been unemployed - Now that I am an OAP - I feel dumped.
