"What a holiday ??"

About: Royal Bournemouth General Hospital / Accident and emergency

While on holiday in Poole my husband suffered a heart attack

On route to the hospital he crashed the paramedics did an amazing job getting us there in record time ( plus piutting up with my screaming ) it was chaotic. The resus team shocked him 18 times and worked on him for two hours. You lot don’t give up

He then went to the catheter lab where a stent was fitted. he was ventillated for the night . The next morning he rang me. I couldn’t believe it. He walked out three days later with no damage done to the brain or heart

Amazing Iwas on my own during all of this and petrified, but the staff kept me well informed all of the time We are back home now and although traumatised doing really well. The stars were lined that day ,had we not been in Poole near the royal Bournemouth ! from the paramedics to the resus team. Cath lab staff, intensive care staff ,All of the team, I truly believe Brian wouldn’t be here today. We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts and next year when we return to Poole we will pop in to say Thankyou personally. Thankyou.

Dear Anonymous

So sorry to hear your holiday in Poole was so traumatic and eventful for the wrong reasons and I do hope you and especially your husband are recovering from the experience.

Thank you for sharing your experience and we are pleased to hear you found the care and attention you received was so good.

It is often commented that people don’t know what’s worse, being the patient or the onlooker, and it certainly sounds like you have had a very traumatic time while our teams worked on reviving your husband and it is good to know there were members of staff on hand to keep you informed about what was happening during this time.

Thank you for noting how diligently the teams worked on your husband to enable him to call you the next morning, giving you probably the second shock in as many days. I’m sure after being shocked 18 times and having a stent fitted he must have felt like he’d gone a couple of rounds with Anthony Joshua, so it is lovely to hear that his first thought was to call you and let you know he was ok.

I’m sure the staff you took care of you would like to join me in wishing Brian a speedy recovery and hope the traumatic memories you have been through fade into history and you can remember the good parts of your holiday in Poole.

Your kind comments will be shared with the teams and we wish you both all the best for the future.

Regards

Patient Engagement Team
