"Concerned about lack of follow up care for ACDF "

About: John Radcliffe Hospital / Neurosurgery

(as the patient),

I had a ACDF (disc replacement) in August 2011 at the Manor Hospital Oxford (although it was done on the NHS and not private) through the John Radcliffe Hospital Oxford.

The care I had from the consultant and his team was excellent, and the nurses were very good too, but my complaint is the follow up care. The operation was done in early August and my consultant said I would have a follow up appointment 6-8 weeks after. I received a letter asking me to accept a phone call from a nurse as a follow up, this is not a follow up appointment so I asked for a proper face to face appointment.

This was scheduled 16 weeks (minus one day) from the operation. I feel that this is a disgusting time to have to wait, and on this appointment I didn't have an xray or even a physical examination.

I wasn't happy about this and since have spoken to many other people who have had this procedure and they all have had frequent apointments, xrays and even MRI's to check the PEEK cage is integrating into the bone. I have had nothing.

I am now writing to the NHS Oxford organisation to complain about my treatment.
