I broke my ankle around nine weeks ago, requiring surgery and a four day stay in hospital. Whilst I appreciate that NHSGGC is dealing with cuts and staffing issues and an increased demand, I feel that my stay could have been managed a little better. I was not able to receive any visitors until the evening following my admission to hospital and as a result, I had not a thing on me. No pyjamas of my own, underwear, toiletries, books or even my phone. I wish my mum would have been able to come up to hospital sooner in order to drop these things off. Secondly, on the morning following my surgery, I was sick on myself and was not even offered the chance to clean myself or have a shower, I sat basically covered in my own vomit for the best part of two days. I also struggled with the severe lack of privacy on the ward. I appreciate that nurses have to keep an eye on you but as a young woman, I would really have appreciated more privacy and the chance to have my curtain closed.
With all that being said, if it were not for the staff in Ward 23, I would not be recovering as well as I have been and the staff themselves were all lovely and I felt very well cared for during my stay. There is not a lot that the staff can do as budgets are being cut left, right and centre and the staff have to do more with less.
