"Hetty's gives me support to carve out a new life"

I contacted Hetty's in Mansfield (a support service for relatives of alcohol and drug users) after discovering that my husband of 23 years had re-started abusing alcohol after almost dying of liver and renal failure two years ago.

He has been a lifeline alcoholic and with Hetty's help I supported him 2 years ago to help him stay off drink. Not only did I find out on Christmas Day that he had restarted drinking but also that he was having an affair with a woman whom has no knowledge of his alcoholism.

Hetty's has given me the support to carve out a new life without him and to help our 14 year old daughter through this traumatic change (also supported by WAM). The support worker Margaret made me feel empowered and justified in my choice to seek a divorce as neither me, nor my daughter, can see that we can go through the drinking and abusive relationships again.

Hetty's gives me exercises to work through each time we meet and I use these to see where I am and how to prevent the recurrence of situations which endanger my emotional and physical safety.

Hetty's is like a silent smiling face looking at me, saying "You can change yours and your daughter’s life for the better - you deserve it."
