"The good outweighs the bad, but they still need..."

About: The Nelson Medical Practice

I've been in and out of London for a few years now, and have experience with more than a few medical practices in the UK and this is the only one that I am genuinely pleased with. My first appointment was quite a shock to me, the genuine interest and concern from the general practitioner was something that I have never experienced before. I have had many GP's brush me off whenever I tried to open up about my mental health, however at the nelson I was always met with kindness and respect. I've mostly been sticking to my regular GP, however I have had appointments with different practitioners and they all shared the same interest in my well-being. There was only one incident with a GP I was not familiar with that left me quite speechless, it was clear to me that he didn't read my medical history before contacting me. I kindly asked for a medical certificate, as I quit my job due to physical health reasons, and they began to ask me personal questions that had no relevancy to the matter at hand. The condescending tone and pressing questions as to when I will be getting back to work left me in tears. I have had multiple people judge me for being unemployed so the last thing I needed (especially at that moment in time as I was suicidal) was the person that's supposed to be helping me, making me feel like a failure.

I would also like to mention the reception staff, most of them are incredibly helpful and always polite, but there are a few that are extremely rude and will speak to you with utmost disrespect. There's been times I approached the desk with a polite smile and was met with such disregard that I felt too scared to say why I needed an appointment! I realize we are all human and have our day's, but if you choose to work in a place where you're constantly seeing to vulnerable people, you need to be aware of how you act and speak at all times. The last time I called to book an appointment I was in tears trying to explain why I needed a GP to call me back, the person on the other line cut me off half way through and with a bored tone of voice, simply told me that they will contact me before the evening. Not acceptable. Please consider how the other person might feel when you sound so extremely disinterested in their obvious distress. The good qualities of this practice outweigh the bad, but they still need to work on various issues before they can be considered one of the best.
