After being ill for 3 days with what I believed to be a simple migraine and cold I finally caved and went to see my GP (I don't like to bother the GP with little things and I am a health care professional myself). He believed I had a infection on some sort and sent me home with antibiotics, perfect I thought... until I threw them up... twice.
So a quick call to NHS111 for some advice only to be told I required an ambulance as I possibly had sepsis. Ambulance crew were fantastic! As soon as I had put down the phone they were already knocking on my front door. Couple of checks and I was horrified to discover I had a NEWS score of 9! Straight up to A&E it was!
The A&E team were also amazing, taken straight in to the examination area and placed on a bed were I was met by a wonder staff nurse and doctor. The nurse was very kind and caring, she put me right at ease. The doctor, again equally kind, was thorough with her examination and had a wonderful bedside manner. She went off away to speak to another colleague and came back to inform me that I had potentially meningitis.
Bloods were taken instantly and I was allocated a side room on a ward to spend the next 8 days recovering.
The staff on De Cham ward were all wonderful, especially the HCA who was with me during my lumbar puncture! and made my recovery that much easier.
Thank you everyone who looked after me at the end of August. I am almost recovered thankfully. A wonderful service all round.
