"Appointments made without consulting me"

About: Calder Community Practice

(as a service user),

I was taken off all my long term medication for a long term condition after I stupidly joined this practice. After a Christmas and new year from hell, unmedicated. I concluded that my trust was all out, that I would stay off medication and figure it out myself at home, even be prepared to get my hands on street drugs if I had to. (Even moreso when I received a warning letter stating that I had committed non physical violence to reception staff by raising my voice on the phone. Though I'd be interested to see how any normal person would respond in that situation. Especially since, trying to call for a full day with no phone pick up, I was casually told that I was lying.) If that meant buying drugs from the Internet so be it. I never wish to see another doctor again and if I have to, I'd rather pay than ever come back to this practice.

Now I have discovered; almost a year later with no contact whatsoever, after I vowed I would never return to this doctor and I haven't, that the doctor has referred me to a secondary care provider, made appointments on my behalf without my request, without consulting me and most importantly, without my permission.

Hello Creoclay,

I am saddened to hear that you feel the Practice did not provide the appropriate care and treatment, as this is of the utmost importance for all of the clinicians in Locala and something that we strive to do every day.

We do not agree that we have ever taken a patient off their long term medication without this being part of the patients treatment plan. In addition, referrals would only be made as a result of consultations. However, I note you have changed GP Practice and the referrals may have been from information supplied to the Practice from your previous doctor.

We expect our staff to treat patients with respect and dignity and do expect the same from patients. We follow NHS Zero Tolerance policies, and writing to patients within this policy is not something that is undertaken lightly.

I am deeply sorry and apologetic for any patient who experiences a service that they perceive falls below the standard that they expect from us as a provider of community health care. I would therefore like the opportunity to investigate your concerns, in order to identify what happened and provide you with answers regarding your referrals to secondary care and would encourage you to contact our Customer Liaison Team on 0345 3003 4529 (option 1) and provide more details.

Emma
