Dad wanted to end his life at home. As he was dying from terminal cancer, the doctor was understandably concerned that he may not be able to get enough pain relief to keep him comfortable. Added to this, it was Easter Sunday. A friend who is a nurse advised me to contact the district nurse. This lady turned out to be an incredible woman who could not do enough for us. She managed to organise contact with the local Martlets hospice and arrange both portable pain relief and transport home within a day. My dad died on the Wednesday- she and the Martlets team were on call throughout his time at home, day and night. Her kindness and gentleness towards me when I called her in distress as my dad was dying is something I will never forget and will always be grateful for.
