"Ward C30 and resus unit at Queens Medical Centre"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Accident and emergency

(as a carer),

Hi. Unfortunately my partner found out after a week of not getting medical help (due to his own stubbornness) that he had broken ribs and a punctured lung. I forced him in the end to go to hospital after a long painful week for him.

When we got there all the staff in resus unit took excellent care of my partner. Answered all our questions we had, never failed to update him as they did surgery even tho he was awake and was scared. They was as gentle as could be asked even dispute the emergency. My partner was so close to death due to this punctured lung due to air and blood trapped.

However, then he was admitted to ward C30 at queens medical centre in Nottingham and is still there now (its only been one night of his recovery) and the nurses/doctors on that ward has been fantastic. We explained my partner absolutely hates staying in hospitals and he got a little upset when I couldn't stay with him over night.. But the staff re-assured him he would be OK and they would contact me at the first sign of him not being OK.

I was worried to leave my partner but they have kept me up to date on his progress over night when I've rang for an update. They have helped my partner to and from the toilet, assisted him when he needs pain relief. Thank you to everyone who helped him and continue to help him on his path of recovery even tho its only been one night so far. I hope the help, support & care continues. Thanks a lot again : -)

Thank you for taking the time to get in touch and for sharing your partner’s experience of our Emergency Department, surgery and Ward C30 at QMC. We really value your feedback and are pleased to hear you both felt appropriately supported, cared for and re-assured at what must have been an incredibly difficult and worrying time for you both. I’ll make sure your feedback is shared with the teams involved in your partner’s care. We wish him well in his ongoing recovery.

Best wishes

Stacie Russon
