"MRI scanner moved outside"

About: Cannock Chase Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

Had an MRI Lumbar spine scan 25 Sept. To my surprise I was led outside to the truck version of this wonderful machine. Had scans previously on the internal machine so was curious to find this mobile unit outside. What is going on?

As this was my 8th MRI scan on my osteo-ridden frame I had no claustrophobic fears. However, on entering the MRI tube I was aware that space was extremely limited and although I managed to reach the end of the tube I was aware that I could not move my crossed arms. Suddenly, I panicked, thinking of those Chilean miners brought up to the surface in similar sized tubes some years ago. My head went dizzy and I had to press the alarm.

I now understand why some people cannot enter these constricted spaces. I told the staff that this was the smallest bore MRI scanner that I had ever encountered. After a brief rest I continued with the scan, but I would not care to repeat it.

So, what is happening at this hospital? Is the internal scanner out of service? Will it be re-instated?

Interested, and slightly squeezed.
