My Mum, an 81 year old lady, was receiving End Of Life Care at home. She fell and fractured her femur, she had to go into hospital, Musgrove Park Taunton. She was admitted to an orthopedic ward and the Doctors were lovely. I can not fault their care and attention. However I found the nursing staff who treated my mum were horrid. My mum was poorly, I had been looking after her at home she was scared and in pain, I felt the nursing staff showed her no compassion.
Mum had surgery and the anaesthetic had left her slightly confused i asked if i could stay i was not allowed, i did stay until she was settled and asked the staff to call me if she became unsettled, as this was out of character. My Mum had her mobile phone with her and she called me when she was in pain and the nurse refused to give her pain relief.
She called in tears at 0500 one morning to say something bad had happened and she was screaming down the phone. I arrived at the hospital 15 min later, to find my mum had fallen and was in absolute agony. We went to Xray. I received no clear answers from the staff.
I watched my mum deteriorate and her dignity fade, she needed surgery but was to poorly to receive it. I demanded that i took my mum home as she was in so so much pain and I fel the hospital was not giving her adequate pain relief. I could see my mum was dying. I said to the staff she was dying. I found some of the staff were unhelpful and showed no compassion at all. I took mum home and she died just 12 hours later
