"disappointing"

About: Sussex Eye Hospital / Ophthalmology

My 5 year old son was referred for an eye test, initial consultation was fine but they were unsure so asked me to return. Twice appointments were messed up, I arrived after taking him out of school and me out of work to discover they had no knowledge of my appointment even though I had the letter in my hand, the receptionist was uncaring and surly, his notes were missing, the optometrist kept getting his name wrong, and after all that I received no follow up to the eye test despite saying she would call later that day, I tried to call several times but couldn't get through. In the end I went to a high street optician and despite the young girl being barely out of training she soon spotted that his eyes were not working together properly.

Unfortunately she said that it was too specialist for her and we had to go back to the hospital and start again, just about to do that now but I hold very little hope for my young sons eyes now.

Thank you for contacting us following your experience with your son, I am so sorry things have not gone as well as we would hope.

I will, of course, share with this with the Directorate Manager for Ophthalmology to look into.

If you would like to discuss this further before you and your son visit again then please contact put Patient Advice and Liaison (PALS) Team on 01273 664511 or pals@bsuh.nhs.uk.

Kind regards
