"rude receptionists, bad demeanour and GP's fob..."

About: Baldwins Lane Surgery

Dear Practice Manager and to ever else it may concern,

I asked how I would go about getting medical evidence and a Drs letter and the request procedure that you had in place at the reception, but the receptionist didn't seem to have a clue what I was asking even though I said it quite clearly in this exact way.

I feel like I wasn't even addressed in a respectful manner and confidential way respectively as the receptionist asked me what it is about and I clearly didn't want to say as it is quite personal to me. I mentioned I only wanted my Dr to know. I had a formal letter addressed to whom it may concern and she asked for that letter which I had in a sealed envelope and she opened it even though I told her I did not want her to do that. I said i would like my designated Dr to look at it and this is unacceptable action as I clearly did not want the receptionist to open it as it private information about my own health concerns which is quite embarrassing to me.

I'm quite upset about it to be honest and the receptionist I felt was quite rude in the way she handled the situation, rude in the sense that they did not have not an appropriate demeanour of that that belongs in the NHS health care system in my opinion. It felt like she brushed away anything I had to say to the side and she seemed quite arrogant.

Now in a lot of practices I have been to, most have a medical evidence request procedure which everyone seemed to know about or could at least point me in the right direction.

Drs Fob off

I have quite a few medical problems, and whenever I see one of the Dr who is a fixed Dr at the practice, they seem top just law and not take me seriously when I mention how I feel about the problem in a physical sense. They just come up with the general sought of comment as oh its not that big a problem and the outcome of me leaving is either nothing or just typical medicines.

I have eczema and its quite bad like i have scars and thinned out skin, i have hyper pigmentation and thickened and thinned out skin on some places open my body due to the constant prescriptions of steroid medication but not once did they even bother to see or understand any underlying problems that there may be nor did they even either think to refer me to a specialist or offer any preventative medicine.

I think that this GP hides behind a friendly facade when in reality it is not such a friendly place, nor is it one which it deals with patients appropriately, in the sense that they tend to only deal with common issues any when anything they don't usually deal with they just fob you off or make you feel dumb, an explanation here or there won't harm anyone, it will help bring trust and a common understanding.

I wish to help this surgery become better and would like to be put in contact with someone who can deal with my problems I have had at this surgery in a genuine confidential matter unlike the receptionist who did not respect my request.

Thank you for taking the time to let us know your experiences and I’m sorry we have not lived up to your expectations. If you require a private conversation please do ask at reception and they can arrange for you to be seen in a private room if one is available. It is the reception staff who are required to signpost patients and tasks around the surgery so if a request is made they need to have as much information as possible to ensure the request goes to the right person, otherwise things can go wrong.

My apologies if you feel our reception staff were rude and lacked an appropriate demeanor. We have so much positive feedback about our reception staff I can assure you this is an isolated incident and we have discussed how you felt at our staff meeting.

We would be happy to book you to see a GP to discuss any medical problems you may have or issues around your care. If you require a little more time just ask for a double appointment.
