"Whipple surgery"

About: Leicester General Hospital / General surgery

My husband was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in March. He was admitted within4 days to have a stent inserted and within 6 weeks for surgery. The care he received was superb. This included the nursing staff who worked ceaselessly, and his wonderful surgeon who gave us optimism and confidence. He also received excellent follow up service from the dietician and hepatobiliary nurse.

He has made an excellent recovery.

Our only quibble was the discharge waiting time....7 hours after the first visit and 3 hours the second. Everyone we spoke to had the same problem. Such a pity to mar otherwise superb treatment on the last day of hospital admission.

Dear reviewer,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. We are very pleased that your husband received superb care and he is recovering well.

We are very sorry to hear about the discharge waiting time. The discharge process is complex and involves ensuring correct medication is acquired from pharmacy and all accurate information regarding the patients treatment pathway is recorded after a thorough review of patient notes. This makes the process more time consuming. Advanced discharge planning has been implemented to facilitate reduction in discharge times and simplify the process. We endeavour to improve patient experience without compromising on patient safety.

We appreciate your feedback and we will pass on your kind words to the staff involved.

Many thanks,

The Communications Team
