"Conquest Hospital A&E experience"

About: East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust

Attended today at 16.00 after falling in my garden this morning and tearing my ear quite badly - my GP said it was Hospital grade work.

Check-in was quick, easy and friendly and then I waited for only around 10 minutes in the light and bright waiting area.

The background music wasn't my choice!

I was examined by a friendly male nurse who then cleaned my wound and applied 9 stitches and some adhesive to help the wound to heal.

There were around 10 people in the waiting area when I arrived and I seemed to be called ahead of all of them - maybe my case was quick and easy.

Treatment took 20 minutes and I was driving out within the hour.

Expected to be there much longer, which I would have accepted (a sign said it was "currently 2 hours waiting").

The only downside at the Conquest, as always, is the somewhat stressfull queing and parking due to the car park seeming to be too small, whatever time you arrive.

Overall for me today a very satisfactory experience.

Thank you A&E.

Dear Malcolm,

Thank you for taking the time to leave us such kind feedback about your recent episode of care in the Emergency Department at Conquest Hospital; it is really appreciated. The Trust works hard to ensure it provides a high standard of care in a timely manner to all patients, and it is therefore very reassuring to read this was your experience despite the Emergency Department being a particularly busy service (and even though the background music was not to your liking – sorry about that!).

We very much hope that the tear to your ear is healing nicely, and that you are well in your general health. We will also ensure your comments are shared with staff, as they will be delighted to read that the care and treatment they provided was valued and appreciated.

Lastly, we are sorry to read that the parking situation at Conquest Hospital has once again been a source of stress for you. We are exploring a number of options to increase parking across our hospital sites, and are also working in collaboration with public transport providers to improve and thus encourage more use of alternative modes of transport to reach our hospitals. Naturally, these lines of enquiry take time to pursue however, please be assured we take this matter very seriously and are committed to improving the situation wherever we can for our patients, their relatives and all of our visitors.
