"Surgery & Aftercare"

About: Orsett Hospital

What I liked

I came to Orsett hospital in July to see a specialist, who was going to explain the procedure. My parents were very dubious about it so I brought them along, they left feeling very happy for me to have the procedure. But also the way that they described it made it alot easier to understand what the SCS will do for me. I then came in on 29 September 2011 to have the trial fitted, I was looked after by another member of staff while the procedure was happening who reassured me all through the operation. The after care with the nurses on the ward was exceptional. But also the reassurance that you could speak to one of the team if you had a query no matter when it was made you feeling more secure. The trial worked and was back to have the implant fitted on 6 October. Again I was treated as if I was the only patient they had by the surgery team, and the nurses on the ward. Also the specialist popped down on both occasions to ensure I was alright. Since then I have had to call them with regards to reprogramming, the possibilty that I have an infection and also that we think it has moved. On all of these occasions I have been seen by the relevant person within a week. I cannot stress how great it is and reassuring that you can contact the team and they will help you either by phone or email or book an appointment for the relevant person that I would need to see. I have never been treated in any of the hospitals that I have been to with regards to my illness in this way. They are a brilliant team.
