I have used DAS on and off for the past 3 years, I honestly don’t know why I have been back. I have never had a good experience there and it hasn’t personally helped with my OCD from day one. I have now chosen to go to a charity based service who I have already found are much friendlier and homely and I feel so much more at ease in their company! I feel that my last therapist limited my recovery as he always said that I was fine at DAS and didn’t see it necassary to seek further help. I know someone who went to DAS for depression and felt so patronised in her appoinment that she didn’t want to go back again. Another family member also went for her OCD with the same therapist as my last one and she was discharged just because she was in a calmer mood one week, even though she was still showing signs of severe OCD and anxiety. The questionnaires that they conduct at the beginning of the appoinment in my opinion are poor, they don’t offer enough questions to give a fair representation of your depression and anxiety levels, they need more questions so that you can identify problem areas. When I discharged myself today to go to a different service I was told that I was welcome to go back to them at any time, I said that I would never be going back again due to the lack of help. I wouldn’t recommend this service to my worst enemy (if I had one) let alone friends and family. Please if you can find an alternative service don’t bother with DAS! I would not reccomend it. Charity services are so much better as the volunteers are there because they want to help not just for the wages!
