"Lovely staff"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Cardiology

(as the patient),

Due to chest pains my wife phoned NHS 24 to seek advice after the triage questions it was decided I should attend Hairmyres A&E having already been diagnosed with angina.

When I got to the hospital I was seen by the staff nurse. I think I'd best not say how I really feel about them or their treatment as the language could become rather ugly. All I will say was I was glad when they left the room.

The Doctor I saw on the other hand was lovely and was keen to get to the bottom of my pain and took all my concerns seriously. They decided that I should be monitored and have bloods and ECG done. After a short while it was decided I would be admitted overnight for observation

I don't remember much of my stay on the ward as I was exhausted but the staff I came across were all lovely.

I was discharged safe in the knowledge that it thankfully was not another cardiac event and that I should always take chest pain seriously.

Dear Angina scare

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience. I am disappointed to hear that the your initial nurse assessment was less than satisfactory. I am keen to explore this further so that we can learn from your specific concerns. Your nursing assessment should be professional and reassuring and I would like to apologise that this was not the case. It would be really helpful if you could contact patient affairs on 01355 585325 to provide further details.

I will share your concerns and praise with the wider team. The medical staff and ward team will be pleased to read that staff were lovely and that you received appropriate care. As you say, chest pain should always be taken seriously and it is important you seek medical advice.

I hope that you are recovering well. Thank you for sharing your experience and concerns. I hope to hear from you soon.

Best wishes

Lise
