My husband went to Yeovil A & E on a Sunday morning with a very painful left ankle and calf, after an accident on the dance floor the night before. He is fit and active, rides a motorcycle and snow boards. He knew it was something more serious than a sprain. On being examined and asked on a scale of 1-10 how painful it was he said 9. He was sent home with painkillers. He suffered for 2 weeks, continuing to work and in constant agony. When he could bear it no longer he visited Chard minor injuries unit.
Nurse Debbie at Chard Minor Injuries Unit did the simplest of routine test and diagnosed a broken Achilles Tendon. She was on the phone to a consultant in Yeovil straight away and was recommending surgery immediately. The following day he saw a consultant, was scanned and it was discovered that 98% of his tendon was unattached! No wonder he was in pain. No one could believe he had not been back sooner! No two people's pain threshold is the same. He was operated on the next day and the surgeon did a beautiful job. With good physio (which we paid for) and advice from the surgeon he is recovering well.
Hooray for Chard Minor Injuries Unit is what we say. So our experiences were both not great and excellent!.
