"I received the best of care for a week in the stroke ward"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Acute assessment unit Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Stroke care NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service)

(as a service user),

Felt unwell on Thursday September, didn’t feel any better on Friday, on Saturday I contacted my local pharmacist for some advice re:- numbness on the left side of my face and also my left Thumb & forefinger. Told to phone ambulance or contact NHS 24, contacted NHS 24 who had me an appointment at my cottage hospital within 40 minutes.

After consultations I was admitted to Forth Valley Royal Hospital acute assessment ward, then to ward A22 (stroke ward) where I received the best of care for a week, nothing was a problem for any of the staff on the ward, cannot fault any of the treatment I received, now recuperating at home. Great big thank you to all concerned.

Dear Paggie

I am so sorry to learn you required to be admitted to hospital, however I am pleased that you are now recovering at home. I am sure this would have been a worrying time for you, and for your family.

In the circumstances, it is good of you to take the time to acknowledge the care you received. The staff within Forth Valley Royal Hospital sound like a huge credit to the NHS.

Your story has been tagged to NHS 24 as you mentioned a call to our service which resulted in you attending at the Out of Hours service. If you wish to provide any specific feedback on the NHS 24 element of your care, then it would be great to hear further from you. I can be contacted at patientaffairs@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk or by telephone on 0141 337 4582.

I will however share your story more widely within NHS 24 to remind our staff of the hugely important role they have in ensuring patients receive the most appropriate care quickly.

Thanks again for getting in touch and I do wish you well.

Shona

Dear Paggie,

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience. I've passed on your kind words to the staff in A22 who were delighted to hear them but more importantly that you're continuing to recuperate.

Best wishes,

Claire
