I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in April 2009. As my father is also diabetic I thought I knew what I had to do. I attended the Juggle Structured Education Programme in April 2010. I found the programme really helpful but thought I was following the advice.
That was until August 2011 when my HbA1C was much higher than it had been - due to me not eating correctly.
I changed my GP Practice in January 2011 as I had heard good reports about the practice, particularly in relation to Diabetes care. I saw the GP, Dr Patel, in September. She explained to me how I could make positive changes to my health in 3-5 years. She explained that sticking more rigidly to a better lifestyle, including diet and exercise, I could make long-term changes. It was like a light-bulb moment! She was very supportive and positive and understanding.
I changed my lifestyle the very next day and have lost more than 1 stone, reduced my blood pressure and my blood glucose is now within the normal range. My BMI figure has also come down a long way. It is amazing what a difference a stone can make! I am now working towards my next stone!
