"I went to visit my Grandmother in Rowan Ward"

About: Prospect Park Hospital

I went to visit my 93 year old Grandmother who is very frail and was only very recently diagnosed with Dementia she has been sectioned for 28 days , she was very emotional and just grabbed me and hugged me and absolutely broke her heart asking me to please take her home She hates being in there and after seeing some of the other patients walking around I can see why she is scared . She has been in there less than 2 weeks and apparently had a fall but no one was around to see this and she ended up with a Broken wrist . All she kept saying was what have I ever done to deserve this. It broke my heart to leave her there . We did see first hand how rude the sister on the desk was , my husband waited for ages in front of her and not once did she bother to look up or ask if we needed any help , when my husband asked if we could be let out of the door she didn’t even look up Just said wait until the nurse comes very ignorant women

Hello,

Thank you for your posting and I am sorry that you were dissatisfied with the care provided on Rowan Ward and that your Grandmother was upset. Please contact me, in confidence, so that we can discuss this in more detail and provide you with a full response.

Alternatively, you could contact your local Healthwatch organisation for a assistance.Healthwatch is the name of the independent ‘consumer champion for health and social care’ launched by the Government in April 2013. There are 152 local Healthwatch organisations across England, set up in each local authority area, including Reading. Healthwatch is designed to give the public more say over services and to help prevent a repeat of previous failings. Contact details can be found on our website; www.berkshirehealthcare.nhs.uk
