Following an accident at work on Tuesday 21st August, I attended the A&E department in Chesterfield Royal Hospital, where I was dismissed as 'fine' after a very quick examination in the corridor.
One of my injuries was to my foot and ankle which rapidly swelled and bruised over the course of a few days after the accident. After 12 days, this did not seem to be improving so my husband brought me to your Minor Injury Unit on Sunday 2nd September
What a fantastic experience, starting from the very friendly receptionist and then the very thorough and professional nurse. After examining my foot, she suspected that I may have a fracture, so an appointment was made to re-attend on Monday 3/9 for an Xray.
The Xray showed 2 fractures and a dislocated toe, so I was fitted with a walking boot and referred to the fracture unit at Chesterfield Royal Hospital. I was told I should get a call from the Fracture Unit, hopefully by the end of the day and the appointment should be within the next couple of days. I decided to ring them late on in the day, so that I could get the appointment and arrange for someone to take me - they had not seen the email and only because I complained I had been dismissed by A&E previously, did they agree to give me the next appointment which was not until Friday (tomorrow) so longer than expected given I have had the issues for almost 3 weeks.
The above is in no way the fault of your hospital, but they told me that it had not been marked as urgent, hence could not give me anything earlier - so my only recommendation would be to have either phoned through for the appointments or maybe to have marked it as urgent - I'm not however sure if this should have been urgent and in no way is this a criticism - just wanting to advise you what the Royal Hospital advised me
The walking boot has helped immensely and no pain or discomfort in the day when I have it on, although I could also do with sleeping in it as it throbs like crazy overnight! Fingers crossed tomorrow will get it sorted
Thank you once again for the help and assistance and for making something horrible, such a nice experience - should the need arise in future, I will definitely be back and I have already mentioned you to so many people as an alternative to A&E Chesterfield.
