"Appointment booking"

About: Thurrock Health Centre

The online booking system was introduced by this surgery in order to facilitate patient booking of appointments online and to ease the 8am scramble for telephone appointments. Since its implementation I have not found the online booking system fit for purpose. Firstly even when you log in very early in the morning, most days appointments are not available and when sometimes a appointment does become available, typically I find I am not able to book an appointment with the GP of my choice. I then have to resort to telephone booking only to find typically no appointments are available. Recently the surgery has introduced telephone consultation service with the GP so when appointments are not available, you may be booked in for a telephone consultation with a call expected before 12pm / 1pm. There are some issues with this, firstly I find this is not a practical way of getting a diagnose over the phone and then later having to visit the GP in person and number 2 when most people are at work, this is not practical. I do feel the online booking system needs further looking into so more appointment can be made available each day however I tend to find some appointments are reserved for telephone booking from 8am which becomes a problem in itself in getting

Thank you for your comments.

This is useful feedback.

We currently offer around 15 online appointments per week but these become available at different times, so we will be looking to streamline this. Our telephone triage system is not meant to replace face to face appointments.

The system enables us to talk to our patients n the same day they call, placing us in the best position to allocate an appointment according to clinical need (both in terms of urgency and with the most appropriate clinician) or to arrange a blood test or other investigations prior to the appointment.

We can also arrange telephone calls in the evening after patients have finished work.

But please do get in touch if you require any further information.
