I was referred to ENT by my GP on the Monday after complaining of difficulty hearing.
The Choose and Book Service showed no available appointments so I emailed the dept to explain I was away with work in Jan and Feb so would appreciate a cancellation if one came up.
I received a phone call two days later offering me a cancellation the following day being Thursday.
I attended the appointment, had a hearing test, had my ears 'hoovered' then saw the consultant who had good and bad news - my hearing was identical in both ears (yeah!) but I had suffered hearing loss at low tones (not yeah and probably why my husband constantly complained of me never listening to him!).
I needed hearing aids.
The consultant referred me to 'next door' for these.
The hearing aid chap told me they wouldn't be able to see me until the new year.
I explained my work commitments and how I was happy to attend if someone cancelled.
He shook his head and told me they seldom had cancellations but you never know.
As I left the hospital, my phone rang; there was a cancellation for a hearing aid fitting for the next day being Friday.
So, I saw my GP on a Monday and just days later had been seen by the consultant AND the hearing aid folks and was kitted out with new 'ears'.
Now that's a fantastic service, don't you think???
