"My incredible journey"

About: Ailsa Hospital Ayrshire & Arran Community Services / Community Mental Health Team Occupational therapy - East Ayrshire

(as a service user),

About 5 years ago I was in a terrible place psychologically, unable to open my curtains let alone leave the house. My GP referred me to the Occupational Therapy team at Ailsa Hospital, this was the start of my incredible journey.

Over the years this team and Stacy in particular have been with me every step of the way, guiding and encouraging me to do so much more. It has not been easy, but they have been very persistent and patient. I have been encouraged to take up other therapies such as Cognitive Behaviour and Mindfulness but only when Stacy and her team thought I was ready for it. I have never been pressured into doing anything I was very uncomfortable with so the journey has been a long one.

With the help and support of this wonderful team I am now hoping to become a peer mentor for people who also have anxiety and depression and need reassurance from someone who has been through the trauma and can relate to their fear and lack of confidence.

This service has been brilliant for me. Thank you all.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear circinusrw69,

I take my hat off to you. What a time you have had. This story is a real testament to Stacy, the team and indeed to you yourself. You should be very proud of yourself to have walked 'your incredible journey', with help and come to this point. I think that sometimes the long journeys are the ones most worth taking and they all start with the first step.

I will be delighted to pass your gratitude to the team and in particular, to Stacy. The success you have shared with us will be a great reward for the team; I am sure it will make their day. Thank you so much for taking time to tell us your story, this wil also be an inspiration for others and I am absolutely sure you are going to be a great inspirational peer support and a bonus to the team.

All the best in your onward journey with everything you do,

Eunice
