" Wow! That's amazing!" is the response of everyone to whom I've related my experience of the speed with which I was treated for a heart attack, two weeks ago, at Heartlands Hospital.
At 2.45pm I experienced chest pains and called 999. A rapid response from the ambulance service, an ECG examination by friendly, efficient paramedics, a speedy journey (lights flashing, sirens sounding, how exciting! ) to Heartlands then ensued. Thanks to the brilliant system of calling ahead I was taken directly to the Cardiac Unit where a Cardiac team was waiting for me. I was reassured and sedated and vaguely aware of activity around my left wrist. Then a smiling face appeared through the blur to announce " All done ! Angiogram completed! We fitted a stent while we were there! Sorted"
The next I recall I was in bed in Ward 6 and the time was around 5 pm!
From symptoms to sorted in under 3 hours! That's pretty good!
The next morning the doctor attended to tell me I could complete my recovery in Solihull Hospital and to explain what had been done. . I thanked her and expressed my admiration at her skill. " All in a day's work," she replied " It's just plumbing! "
May I reiterate my thanks and admiration to the Cardiac Team for their skill and modest dedication and the staff of Ward 6 for their care during my short but sweet stay in Heartlands ..
"Speedy treatment for heart attack."
