"Telephone operator"

About: Farnham Road Practice

I telephoned Farnham Road Surgery today between 13:45 and 13:50 to ask if it were possible to speak to a pharmacist to ask if two similar eye drops were interchangeable, as a relative was given one instead of the other. He did not realise that he had been given the particular eye drop until he was due to instill it (he had an eye operation recently)and it was imperative that he did not miss instilling the drops. The operator said that no one was available but an appointment could be made for the following day. I was in the process of explaining the reason for the request when she interrupted and suggested that I called a local pharmacy. I perfectly understood and accepted what she suggested. However, it became clear to me that, for whatever reason, the call had been an irritant to her because she slammed the telephone down so hard that my ear began to ring and is still ringing 30minutes after the call. I know that operators are very busy and ‘nonsense’ calls can be very irritating, but was it necessary to show her irritation in such a way?

I would firstly like to apologies for the issues that you feel you have experienced with the practice; the practice does appreciate feedback both negative and positive as we view it as a tool in improving our services.

This behaviour is not at all tolerated and I can only apologise, It is difficult to investigate anonymous feedback, therefore if you would kindly contact the management team and we can discuss this matter further.

Many Thanks
