"I felt that NDDH looked after me as well as I..."

About: North Devon District Hospital

What I liked

I had a smooth progression through pre-op assessment and the day surgery unit. All the hospital staff I encountered were professional and helpful. I was given confidence that the outcome would be successful and that I would be looked after. I left the hospital with clear information on the recovery process.

What could be improved

I can’t think of anything which I would want to be done differently.

Anything else?

I was treated in the day surgery unit for an inguinal hernia repair. My initial referral via DART was in February 2011 and the operation took place three months later in May, after one postponement.

The whole process was smooth and uneventful. The consultant clearly explained the treatment options. The day surgery unit seemed well organised and the staff were professional and helpful. I was given all the assistance I needed while I was there. I find hospitals and operations stressful, but on this occasion the stress was all self-induced and NDDH did nothing to add to it.

I was given a booklet on hernia repair which told me all I needed to know about the operation and the recovery process. The operation was a success, leaving me with full mobility and only occasional minor discomfort.
