"A gall bladder operation which went wrong"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / General surgery Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Intensive care unit

(as the patient),

I had a routine gall bladder removal and finished up in hospital for the best part of a month. Something went wrong and I developed bilary peritonitis. I then spent a week in Intensive Care and slowly recovered. 7 weeks later I am still quite weak but definitely on the mend. I would like to give full marks to the nursing staff in both ICU and B11 (Forth Valley Royal). Generally speaking they gave care well beyond their duty and this applies to all levels of staff. Since coming home 3 weeks ago, I have had good help with dressing and washing (now not necessary) but waited 3 weeks for aids for the shower. I am still waiting for promised occupational and physiotherapist. ! !

Hi Tandy

Thank you very much for your kind comments which I will share with the whole team. Staff always try to provide a high standard of care which can be difficult at times!

I am sorry to hear your aids for home have taken so long to be delivered, can I ask you to get in touch with Pauline Donnelly, Person Centred, Patient Experience Coordinator, she will be able to help you with the difficulties you have been experiencing with physio and occupational therapy, you can contact her on tel: 01324 566523 or email Pauline.donnelly1@nhs.net

We wish you a continued speedy recovery.

Kindest regards

Donna Coomes
