"My treatment for kidney tumour"

About: Pinderfields General Hospital / General surgery St James's University Hospital / Nephrology

(as the patient),

While an inpatient at Pinderfields Hospital, Wakefield, for a serious gall bladder infection, I was scanned to investigate the condition of the gall bladder. The resultant scan indicated a slow growing tumour within my right kidney. I was subsequently referred by the oncology team to St James Hospital under Dr Wah and her team who suggested that the best form of treatment for the position and growth stage of the tumour would be right renal cryo ablation which was subsequently carried out in January 2018. On waking up from the anaesthetic, I felt virtually no pain and joked with nursing staff that the only painful part was removing the plaster dressing the next morning. All members of staff were amazing from the word go. Dr Wah was really informative and I never once felt anxious. The other clinical, nursing and support staff were brilliant too, giving me an almost enjoyable experience. The follow-up outpatient MRI scans were just as pleasant an experience, my 6 month final scan still showing no signs of tumorous material presence. I have now been referred back to Pinderfields for future follow-up scans. Thanks very much to all staff.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write to us with your wonderful and kind comments.

I am very happy to read that we the care you received throughout your stay with us was professional and informative and that you felt that the staff were both friendly and caring.

I have taken the liberty of sharing your words of support and encouragement with Dr Wah and asked that this is shared with all her team. I know that all the staff will be delighted to know they delivered the care that met all your expectations.

Once Again, thank you so much for taking the time to write to us.
