"Good care at Stafford and Cannock Hospitals"

About: Cannock Chase Hospital / Older people's healthcare Stafford Hospital / Older people's healthcare

(as the patient),

In mid-December, I had a terrifying experience when I found myself alone wandering around and not knowing who or where I was. Gradually, my memory returned but I was really distressed. Everyone I spoke to afterwards urged me to see my GP.

Two days later I did so and the doctor sent me immediately to Cannock Hospital for tests and she asked the Stroke Unit at Stafford Hospital to see me. Two days later I spent over two hours there, and had further tests, and a consultation.

At 83 years of age, I had been worried about reports that elderly patients were receiving poor, if any, care. I received nothing but the highest standard of care from my GP and from all the staff I met both in Cannock and in Stafford hospitals. Their friendliness and helpfulness went far beyond the call of duty, so that I felt more confident and less fearful. I firmly believe that this is every bit as important as medicines or procedures.

Both hospitals were clean and welcoming and brightly decorated for Christmas and the staff were professional, hard-working and cheerful.

I think it should be a two-way system, where the patient respects the qualifications and dedication of the staff and the staff treat the patient with dignity and understanding. I have nothing but praise for the care I have received.
