"Overall, the care was excellent"

My Mother was recently admitted to Musgrove Park hospital, Triscombe Ward, and I wanted to say I thought overall the care the nurses, doctor and consultant gave was excellent. I was surprised as how frequently the nurses and doctors changed but the passing on of information was generally very good. I did notice that my Mum’s food intake was sometimes not noted down on her sheet and on one occasion she missed both breakfast and lunch, so I found her a bit distressed and hungry at mid afternoon. This appeared to be a one off but was still surprising and worrying.

Thank you for the email posted which raises concerns on the food planning and assessing for your mother whilst on Triscombe ward. It is essential that all ward staff are able to identify the required nutrition and hydration for each individual patient and food plan sheets are a practical tool that works well. We are aware that patients eating habits can vary so a 'little and often' approach is successful. However, mealtimes are set appropriately for wards to allow plenty of time for all patients to receive the choice that they have made.

I will link with the ward to check that they have the support required in menu collating to ensure that there are no gaps in patient food choice.

Thank you for your feedback on the excellent care your Mother received on Triscombe Ward. I am sorry that on one occasion that your Mum's food intake was not on the chart- I have forwarded your concern to the Ward Sister, who I knew would be keen to hear your feedback. She has responded to which I will post below:

"Thank you for taking the time to share your positive feedback. It is always rewarding to hear how my staff are providing excellent standards of care.

I am sorry to hear that your Mum missed both breakfast and lunch on one occasion and please be assured I will be sharing this feedback with my ward team.
