"I went from hating hospitals to having every..."

About: Southmead Hospital / Urology

It started when I had blood in my urine (sorry if that’s too graphic for some) I was referred to southmead and I received one appointment for the next week and one three months later for a different scan, when I went for the first one the doctor was amazing very helpful, he got the other scans I needed for that same day and cancelled the others, he was very professional and understanding as I won’t say to much but for a man it’s definitely not something you ever want to experience believe me, as he tried to put the camera down I fainted and was crying like a child when I came round I completely bottled it so he rescheduled it and for me to be put to sleep, I got that appointment for two weeks later and I was amazed at every single member of staff who dealt with me, at one point I nearly bottled it again and jokingly the surgeon said to me oh shut up just sign it and we had a little laugh about it, it made me feel a lot safer tbh, that may sound silly to some people but to me it made me feel like he sort of cared for my well being like a friend would so I signed the paper and got ready when I went down I have a bit of a problem with my heart also and they had 8 doctors, surgeons and nurses in the room and two people which I do not know what they were watching over from behind a glass screen, I felt like I was wasting their time they could be with someone else but it goes to show the level they are willing to step to to make sure their patients are 100% looked after at all times when there is a chance of something going wrong. I was put under and next thing i know I’m in the medi room which I haven’t mentioned yet but everything was spotlessly clean in all rooms I went into. When I woke up there was one of the male nurses in the room with me who immediately noticed I’d opened my eyes before I’d even woken up properly it was instant so he was definitely doing his job on keeping me safe, he checked how I was and although I’d had a local and general anaesthetic and been awake for less than a minute I was perfectly fine as if I’d had the best sleep in my life, I sat up and because of the op I had I needed to pee which I was able to do as soon as I woke up I then went strait over and got dressed and got my coffee and biscuits I needed to eat and drink before I could leave, the nurse who’s been doing this for over 11 years said she’d never seen someone be that alert and basically back to reality ever and I put this down to the amazing staff and there very gentle and very very competent hands. It was intrusive and although I had a local I should be feeling quite a bit of pain when I pee but again because of their amazing work it’s hardly anything. Needless to say my fear of hospitals irks a lot better and I’d happily go to southmead hospital anytime
