"Failure to get urgent appointment"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Gynaecology (Ward 13)

(as a relative),

My Mum went to her GP and has an urgent referral to be seen by Wishaw gynaecology. she was advised by the GP she should be seen within two weeks. As it has almost been two weeks since my mum went to the GP she phoned up Secretaries at Wishaw General who advised her the wait would be at least 8 weeks. My Mum then phoned her GP who advised her to phone back Wishaw as she put the request through marked urgent and she should really be getting seen sooner than that. When she phoned back Wishaw she was told 8 weeks was the waiting time for urgent patients.

My mum is very anxious awaiting this appointment and also now anxious and upset that she should be getting seen sooner. 8 weeks does not seem an appropriate length of time to wait for patients who should be seen within 2 weeks. My worry is that she will not follow the 62 day pathway and also if she requires treatment it will be postponed by an excessive wait for the initial appointment.

Dear morag123,

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments. It is disappointing to hear that there appears to be a delay in your mother receiving her appointment. Can you please contact our patient affairs department on 01698 366558 with your mothers details and we will investigate and hopefully resolve this issue,

Many Thanks

Maureen

Dear morag123,

Many thanks for taking the time to contact me and for providing me with your mum's contact details. I appreciate how worrying this time has been for both of you and apologise for the waiting time for your mum's appointment. I hope everything goes well at her appointment this week.

Kind regards

Yvonne Ross
