"Arthroscopy on left knee"

About: Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

the staff in my opinion went above and beyond the call of duty, I was admitted on Baschurch ward.

The consultant saw me and marked my leg with skin pencil, then The anaesthetist who asked for an ECG. Then I was shown into a “Pod”. After emptying bladder, came back, the nurses then instructed me to undress and put gown on and warm non slip socks.

When I was safely ensconced on the trolley, I was covered with a lovely hot blanket.

The anaesthetic room assistant wheeled me down to anaesthetic room and putting me at ease all the time.

Monitoring was put on and the anaesthetist, came in and found a vein and put cannula in, put dressing on and gave it a flush through, I was on oxygen throughout the whole procedure, anaesthetic injection was given, pleasant dreams!

Came round in recovery on oxygen. After resetting pulse alarms several times , the recovery nurse told a doctor who checked my monitor, thankfully okay.

Nurse came from baschurch ward, recovery nurse and ward nurse wheeled me through to ward.

Had a coffee, then a lovely sandwich.

I was helped to dress in my day clothes.

Taken through to discharge lounge on recliner chair.

The I was advised which ward I was going to, physiotherapist came and gave my physio booklet, wheeled me in normal wheelchair to a set of steps, showing me correct way of getting up and down stairs with crutches.

Kenyon ward nurses then came to take me to the ward where I would be spending the night.

Had lovely menu for tea.

Nurses were excellence in itself.

Then obs and finally bed. Menus for next day came round. Drugs on time, fairly good night.

Washed and dressed next morning after being wheeled down to washroom .

Breakfast was gorgeous, as was all food served.

Plenty of choice and plenty on plate, very tasty menus. Pharmaceutical assistant came after lunchtime to ask what pain relief I was already on for discharge. Sister changed dressing and prepared me for discharge.made sure I had painkillers from pharmacy and letter for my GP as well as dressing pack for dressing change.

Hospital transport came about 2 hours later, in the meantime there were abundant drinks tea or coffee for us discharges.

That is what I call hospital the RJAH Oswestry, hope to be going there again end of year for total knee replacement.
