"Shame not all the nurses had respect for their..."

About: West Middlesex University Hospital / Accident and emergency

I was admitted to the Richmond/SAU ward through A and E on 15th August 2018. I can not fault the A and E staff and most of the nurses were amazing in their care for me in the SAU ward. However, on 17th August at 6am when the nurse was doing my 'obs' she thought it would be respectful and thoughtful to turn my individual light on above my head before waking me up. i woke with a start and opened my eyes only to be blinded by the hugely bright light that was about a metre away from my head. I asked her to turn it off and she said no - I had to hide my head under the covers to get my eyes to adjust to the sudden light. She said she had to do my 'obs' to which I replied I know but none of the other nurses had turned the overhead light on to so this. She didn't seem to care. She really hurt my eyes and due to her neglect for my wellbeing, I ended up with a migraine that I couldn't shift all day Friday. Luckily I was going home as there was also nowhere I could go to be in the dark and silence. Not only did she do this but when the trained nurse came to change my canula I overheard her saying to another worker 'shall we turn the light on?' 'NO' she laughed as did the other worker (nurse or healthcare assistant I am not sure) and they turned the strip light on above my bed. This also meant the other ladies in the ward had now been subjected to unnecessary light. We were in the surgery ward and were all very poorly. This girl is clearly in the wrong profession because regardless of training you know what is right and wrong and the other nurses woke me by calling me to wake me and then they used a night light that they had on their person.

There was also another nurse that showed no empathy at all and this was on my first night in the ward - the 15th. I was being sick and shedding a tear as I felt so ill from the morphine - she did my obs and didn't ask if I was alright and left me on my own with no show of care at all.

HOWEVER, the rest of the staff of which there were a few were awesome and made me feel like I was being looked after.
