I went to Larbert Hospital for an endoscopy last week and was overwhelmed with the care I received. Although I was apprehensive about the procedure and had been offered a general anaesthetic I opted to have a throat spray instead as this would allow me to be discharged quicker and recover more quickly. My son was coming later that day and I wanted every thing out of the way by the time he arrived.
I cannot sing highly enough the praises for the four nurses who attended. I was put totally at ease from the moment I arrived, two nurses, McGregor and Morton, explained the procedure to me and what they would be doing. They explained how I would be able to indicate If I was uncomfortable during the procedure. They were all so kind and gentle, one of them stood and stroked my hair to keep me calm and soothed.
I had no cause for concern, with the throat spray I didn't feel anything, other than a slight soreness later in the evening. By the following day this had disappeared.
I want to add that the whole process from my GP's referral to the endoscopy being conducted took just three weeks. I was very pleasantly surprised how quickly it all happened.
