"horrendous, i never would ever set a foot back..."

About: Bradford Royal Infirmary

What I liked

Not a thing it was horrendous from start to finish

What could be improved

Everything.. More communications between the staff, patients knowing exactaly what's going on and not having nursing staff with attitude problems

Anything else?

My doctor admitted me into ward 20 with acute appendicitus. I have had this twice before one in 1997 and again in 2007. I got at the ward for 5pm and was told off for being there an hour and a half after my doc had phoned ( had to get someone to look after my children and had to get down there on public transport ) anyways I was put into a cubicle at 6pm and didn't get seen or any bloods taken til 8:30pm.. They finally decided at 11pm they were gonna admit me

So I got taken onto the ward and given a bed ( but still no painkillers at this point dispite being clearly in a lot of pain ) and I asked for another pillow so I could put it under my side.. I was told someone would find me one and didn't.. I tried to go to sleep.. But every hour I was woken up.. For various things all that could have been done while I was in the cubicle.

The next day I was nil by mouth still til 12pm.. I was given a cheese sandwich because I had missed lunch.. It wasn't that nice and the yogurt caused me stomach pains so I had to buy my own lunch.. I didn't get any pain killers til 4:30pm nearly 24 hours after being at the hospital.. And I got no dinner at all either.. The girl didn't even look beyond the curtain but the lady who just came in 30 mins prior got one.. When I asked about this I was told I could have a sandwich again to whi h I refused because of the one I had earlier that day and then was basically told to go and buy my dinner.. I don't see how this is right or fair..

They also still couldn't get my last blood test result back ( they had taken blood at 11am and 2 outta 3 were back ) but I had to keep asking what was going on and nurses never came back to let me know. The lack of care was horrendous and in the end I self discharged after the nurses attitude on the desk.

I am still in the same pain but I refuse to go back to that hospital

Hello, I am really sorry you did not get a response to this at the time. We think this was because of a technical problem with the site which meant some posts were not feeding through to us. We have only just become aware of this and are working with NHS Choices to put it right. I am really sorry you had a negative experience, this is not what we want for our patients. So much time has passed that it would be difficult to do anything now about the matters you raise, but please be assured we are working hard to make sure all our patients get the best possible care.

If you have any concerns about your care in the future please don't hesitate to ask to speak to a senior member of the ward staff, or the Matron, or contact our Patient Experience Manager on 01274 364810, so we can investigate and take any action necessary. Thank you for your feedback and apologies again for the delay.
