"Person centred care in A&E"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance University Hospital Wishaw / Emergency Department

(as a staff member posting for a carer/relative),

I recently attended A&E with my 8 year old son after he collapsed in a local barbers.

At an extemely anxious time for us as parents, we were reassured by all disciplines that he was in safe hands. The ambulance crew, Tori and Tom went above and beyond to ensure a safe journey to hospital. In hospital we were treated equally as well by both medical and nursing staff. Happy to say that my son is now well and being followed up by our GP. A massive thanks to all.

Dear Tainbow 3,

Many thanks for taking the time to post you and your sons experience during an emergency visit to the ED.

This must have been a frightening time for both of you.

I was delighted to read that you were treated well by medical and nursing staff and that you were in safe hands. I will ensure these kind words are passed to the ED staff.

I am glad that he has recovered and is now well.

Wishing him all the best.

Kind regards

Andy

Dear Rainbow3,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback with us all on CareOpinion. I am so sorry to hear that a simple trip to the barbers turned into an ambulance for your 8 year old son. That must have been terrifying.

Being called to children in our line of work can be quite nerve-wracking to tell the truth, as a service, thankfully children are a very small part of our workload. I know from experience that when attending children, it is also not just the child but often the parents you must care for as well who are understandably very anxious at the time.

I am so glad to read that our staff went 'above and beyond' and left such a positive impression on you. It would be lovely if we could pass on these kind comments to the crew and their manager. If you would like this to happen I can facilitate this. All you would have to do is email me at alan.martin2@nhs.net. I would just need the date, time and location of where the ambulance attended and your sons name. Also if you could quote your CareOpinion username that would be very helpful.

I hope your son is on the road to a full recovery and I wish you both all the very best.

Kind Regards

Alan
