"AWFUL LABOUR EXPERIENCE"

About: St Mary's Hospital / Maternity care

39 weeks pregnant

On Tue at 5am my waters broke, me and my husband rushed to Saint Mary's hospital in Manchester. Loosing a lot of water I kept knocking on the hospital's door that was locked with no answer. The security man's chair was empty and him not around. My husband managed to force the door to open and we finally got upstairs to book myself in.

The midwife examined me and as I was only 3cm dialated, said its time for me to go back home as Im not ready for the labour yet and I got booked for 7pm the next day- 38 hours later! When I asked for something to speed up the labour as I know its not good for neither me or baby when waters are leaking and also there is a risk of baby getting suffocated, the midwife said the hospital is into natural labours and there is nothing to worry about as whatever water I loose its refilling.

I came back home panicking about the safety of my baby. I couldn't stay home any longer when around 1pm the same day I had regular contractions, waters still leaking, and concerned about my baby I went back to the hospital. I was sent back home despite me begging to keep me in as I can not stand waiting at home not knowing what is going on with my baby. My requests were rejected.

All afternoon and evening was dragging and seemed to be infinity. Contractions were becoming more and more frequent reaching the length of 1 minute every 2 minutes. I could not sleep, eat, drink.

At midnight I went back to the hospital. I was waiting in the reception area for over an hour screaming every 2 minutes as my body was pushing with every contraction. When finally I got examined I found out I am not ready for labour yet as I was 7cm dialated but I stayed in. I was begging for speeding up my labour but this is not the standard procedure in the UK. Over the night I was getting more and more tired, with contractions every 2 minutes I was unable to sleep or eat.

Whole pregnancy I ate healthy, no stress, no medications and even now in this difficult moment, while contractions come up regularly I did not ask for any pain relief to protect my baby as much as I can and keep him naturally healthy.

As I was getting more and more tired, my body was becoming more and more uncontrollable. My bladder was blocked, I was unable to wee what decreased the pain of every contraction. Finally when my labour was planned for 9am on Wed -28 hours after my waters broke- I was in a cosy pool ready to push when my body stopped responding- contractions gone, I was dehydrated, exhausted.

In a meantime me and my baby were given 3 doses of antibiotics as not giving birth within 24 hours since waters broke might have bad health consequences. ( nothing natural about injecting antibiotics in my and my baby's body as hospital stated its their consignment. I was finally given something to cause contractions again after 33 hours and had forceps delivery....!

Forceps delivery, 3 doses of antibiotics, injection to retrieve contractions, 33 hours after waters broke...
