I was referred here by Westmorland General Hospital, whose doctor in PCAS went to the trouble of arranging an 11.30am appointment. I checked in at 11.00am, and after waiting for nearly 4 hours I enquired why no one had been to see/treat me. I was told this ward is a triage ward, so it serves on a first come first served basis, so if you are being referred from a hospital on the Scottish Borders for example, not only is there a 3 hour round trip, you could potentially be waiting for a further 8 hours before you receive treatment, of any kind.
I have never come across such a poorly organised service, that doesnt take into account its patients, with 1 doctor treating up to 50 people per day. I cant blame the staff, as none of them really did anything wrong, except give the referral doctor the impression they did appointments. So there it is folks, we have 1 plastic surgeon covering all areas from the Scottish Borders to Liverpool, 1 imo is a disgrace.
I am now forced to go to Newcastle Freeman Hospital, 'pretend' I have just had the accident at A&E and then be referred into their plastic surgery ward where I would be treated almost immediately. But this is the quickest method of gaining treatment for us poor souls living in the North West. Good luck to you all.
"Horrendous waiting times"
