"Best care possible at a difficult time"

About: Bpas (merseyside Clinic)

I found out about BPAS online. I decided to skip out the GP and go straight to them. I spoke to someone on the phone who spoke to me briefly about how the clinic works. I explained my situation to her and she explained that I could have both my consultation and treatment on the same day as long as I was under 9 weeks and everything went ok at consult. I was booked in for 2 weeks later.

On the day I arrived an hour early. The receptionist made me feel at ease immediately, took some details and gave me some paperwork to fill out. The waiting room was clean and calming. A few magazines, a tv and enough seating to make sure you didn’t feel on top of other patients.

Within half an hour I was called into consultation. My height and weight were taken and I discussed my reasons for the procedure and the was made to feel at ease and unjudged. She explained what would happen next. There a sign that says no eating in the waiting room as some people were fasting for surgical. I asked the lady about this and she pointed me to a small patio where I sat in the sun and enjoyed my sandwich.

Shortly after I was called by a nurse. She was wonderful. Extremely friendly and without being condescending she was motherly. She was just like that aunt that everyone loves. Being there on my own, her presence was amazing. She explained the procedure to me, asked me a few questions and gave me a scan. She confirmed my dates and explained that as long as i was approved by 2 doctors I would be able to have both parts of the procedure that day. She explained I’d be waiting a while and said the girls at reception would tell me where i could go get a coffee if I wanted.

I did , and a short walk away I had a coffee and returned to the clinic. I was called by the sane nurse who asked me one last time if I was sure. Then gave me one tablet to take orally and 4 to put inside myself. She assured me if I wanted help she could do it for me. I decided to go for it myself and was handed a kidney bowl with a glove and 4 tablets in it. I inserted them myself in the toilet and it was straightforward. The nurse then explained more of what to expect in the coming hours. Gave me antibiotics, kindly wriote the time I should take them on the box and Some painkillers.

She explained how I should take the painkillers. Referred me to family planning as the doctor had said due to a previous medical condition I shouldn’t have the contraceptive pill. Gave me a number to ring if I was worried about anything, and a pregnancy test to do in 2 weeks, she also wrote the date on that for me.

All in all a perfect experience. Couldn’t have asked for better care.

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback, which I am sure, will be extremely helpful to other women prior to their treatment.

We are also grateful for your very kind comments which will be passed on to the relevant BPAS staff.

Kind regards, Pam Field, BPAS Client Engagement Manager (email: clientservices@bpas.org).
