Visited Basildon a&e department for the first time in many years. The receptionist was very polite and helpful and gave me instructions who I needed to see first.
However, I feel for the benefits of the patients there needs to be written instructions visible as you enter a&e of what needs to be done in order to be checked in to be seen.
For example:
1. See nurse in side room. You can enter when door is open to log you in their system. They will give you paperwork.
2. Take this paperwork to the receptionist who will then check you in to be seen.
3. See the doctor who will resolve the problems you entered with today.
And so on.
We waited nearly three hours to be seen due to unclear instructions and miss communication from reception staff. The lady told me that she didn't need to see the paperwork from the nurse and told me to sit down. This resulted in is not being check in to see the doctor and longer waiting times.
For the future helpful signs would help a lot of vulnerable and confused people.
