From the moment I arrived in STOWUPLAND Ward after bowel cancer operation, ALL the staff, from cleaners, caterers, care assistants and nurses were wonderful. They were caring, patient and kind, despite staff shortage pressures AND THE DREADFUL HEAT.
I was in hell for a few days and they were so kind to me, in fact everything that was done to me by the staff was excellent,
HOWEVER, there were definite deficiencies in the communication department, also experienced during my investigation stay a few weeks earlier. And despite the staff doing their part in my discharge process, it was a shambles. I sat in a wheelchair outside entrance 2 FOR 30 MINUTES, and the transport (had been promised hospital transport but it didn't turn up so a hospital taxi was eventually organised) was waiting outside entrance 6!!
NOT Stowuplands fault but the company who deal with hospital transport.
Apparently this happens quite a lot.
The discharge spoilt the excellence of the whole experience, which until then was second to none.
Long live NHS
