I have a complex fistula and was admitted to MK hospital, Ward 21 with high fever on the 23rd May. At about 5pm on the 25th I experienced a heavy discharge of pus (250-300ml approx.). My pyjamas and the sheets were heavily soiled with pus and
I called for a nurse to change my bed clothes and pyjamas but was told that somebody would attend to me. I managed to get some towels from an orderly which I used to mop up what I could and placed them on the floor. I called for a nurse several times through the night but was told continually, that someone would attend to me. I lay wallowing in a pool of pus until 11.00 am the following morning and my predicament was witnessed by 2 doctors on their morning rounds who asked a nurse to dress the wound and change my bed clothes and pyjamas.
The nurses are generally very attentive and caring but a tiny minority are badly in need of training and educating to understand the standards of proper nursing care.
