"Breastfeeding"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Maternity

(as a service user),

I didn't feel I had much help on the ward after giving birth. Although I did get support it felt rushed and with little explanation.

I had support from the midwife breastfeeding support worker in my daughter's first and second week and she was fantastic. Without her I'm not sure I would have continued to breastfeed. She spent 1-2 hours with us each visit and enabled us to get on track and have confidence feeding.

I also accessed support through 2 local breastfeeding support groups. They were great for advice, support and also peer support. I used these groups throughout our breastfeeding journey (22 months) at various times.

Dear AC83

I am sorry to her of your experience with the maternity services which was distressing at a time that should have been joyous. It is disappointing that we where unable to meet your expectations at this time.

I am sorry that your breastfeeding support felt rushed on the ward. We are in the process of building a infant feeding team to work on the ward to improve this situation.

I am pleased to see that you had excellent help from our community support workers and your local support groups.

Thank you for bringing this concern to our attention.

Kind regards

Trudie Roberts
