"Vasectomy operation performed with the door..."

About: Spire Liverpool Hospital

I attended the hospital at 730, I did and taken to a ground floor room, it was clean, not private, people were passing by and there was numerous vertical blinds missing.

I was told to put on paper underwear and a washed out threadbare gown and to put my own dressing gown on, I didn’t have a gown I had pjs (as per the letter)…. This was a problem as the gown was backless and I was told I would be walking to the theatre through public areas, the solution I latterly was they would use my blanket as a cape!

I waited till 9 when I had my blood pressure taken and saw a rushed and mithered consultant who had me sign a letter and then rushed off with no time to answer my queries…

At 9.40 I was told I was next , I was still waiting at 11 without seeing a soul, eventually after 12 I was unceremoniously taken through public areas using a blanket as cape…

This is where it gets very serious, the operating theatre is a small room maybe 15 foot square with a table in the middle and double doors at the end, blood and fluids were still being cleaned when I arrived and I had to stand and watch… I was then laid on the bed and told to pull my gown up and at which point the paper underwear was pulled down, I objected as the door was being opened and closed constantly and I could see the whites of the eyes of people walking past… the consultant told me to just lie back and not look down…

The door was now closed but there was 6 people in the room, three gossiping by the door and two working on me with the consultant…

Now the consultant had my testicles held up inserting the anaesthetic into my perineum and the gossiping nurses opened the door and started chatting again, I objected and was told to lie back as they were [part of the procedure and were getting supplies

I counted the door being opened maybe 12 times during my operation and it was held open for substantial periods of upto 90 seconds at a time whilst the male nurse at my had a argument about a cupboard lock 4 times, again I objected but was told to lie back and ignored it…. I saw at least 6 people who were not involved in my operation look at me during the procedure.

A man is at his most vulnerable in this procedure, he is allowing professional to sterilise him, he has likely never been naked as an adult in front of anyone bar his partner…. And yet they leave you naked with for the waist down with a room full of women watching and arguing over cupboard locks and people gawping from the outside.

If a woman was treated like this during say a smear test or sterilisation there would absolutely be a national outcry.

I feel assaulted, traumatised and disrespected. A dog being neutered would be treated better.

There was no after care, no post operative pain relief.

I was chucked a leaflet telling me the women hospital will check my sperm in 12 weeks, ive no advice on where to go or who to contact if I have tact if I have issues.

This isnt the 1970s men should be treated with equal dignity and respect as women
